Design talk means taking time to meet the face behind a brand. Today, we’re going to get to know Jörg Höltje, the founder of Hausen.
Höltje was born in what was then East Berlin in 1981, but now lives in downtown Hamburg, where the desire for his own design studio was realized in 2014. A graduate of the Industrial design school at the University of the Arts, Berlin, he also studied at the famous Politecnico di Milano and worked with Studio Patricia Urquiola in Milan before graduating. An acclaimed designer, Höltje has shown his work at numerous international fairs and exhibitions, from the DMY Design Festival in Berlin to ICFF New York. Having gathered experience with a variety of clients from Ligne Roset to Rosenthal or Alessi, Höltje was more than ready to try his hands at a solo project; and has done so with incredible success and skill.
Beyond decorative
Studio Hausen was born out of his desire to create timeless, long-lasting products for modern homes. The love for high quality natural materials made to last a lifetime is melded with the dependable, minimalist flair of German craft in every single Hausen product: solid wood, fine marble, or handblown glass make for a brand that sets quality — that of the source materials and of the design itself — before anything else. This makes for a collection of items that can accompany people and the spaces they inhabit through a lifetime of change, and has made Höltje’s brand a household name with discerning design lovers. Hausen products are meant to be useful, not just pretty. Their mission goes beyond being decorative: these products are meant to enrich the lives of real people, no matter where it may take them.
Yours to create
We at DECOVRY champion Hausen and offer a curated selection of their items, from their chic marble bookends to the minimalist shelving sets — made exclusively of solid wood and without the use of toxic adhesives or finishes — that are flexible, expandable and go well with most anything. LINK, for instance, is their display and storage system pared down to what really matters: made of fine wood and steel, it can be installed in a number of ways to adapt to your living space: symmetrical or off-center, lengthwise or tall, the LINK system is yours to create.
