MODERN MEDITERRANEAN: An interior landscape

Gallardo Llopis Architecture’s recent project is tailor-made for the owners, incorporating patios and gorgeous gardens to create a sanctuary with plenty of privacy.

A new viewpoint

As this plot of land in sunny Santa Gertrudia, Ibiza is surrounded by neighbours on all sides without a clear view in whose direction to orient the home, the architecture firm turned this concept on its head, instead containing the home’s exterior by way of a monolithic volume integrated into the four-bedroom home. Rather than building from the ground up, the architects took this brief as an opportunity to work a little differently, instead starting with a large block and taking away parts of the structure to create a layered space with patios and terraces at the core of the building.

The ground floor contains the living area, with large glazing making up this floor’s walls, looking out onto manicured gardens and a pool contained within the imagined boundaries of the cantilevered walls up above. The home’s four bedrooms are contained within the upper floor, a more contemplative, quiet space for visitors to relax in.

 

 

 

 

Luxurious landscaping

A homage to the vernacular architecture of Spain, in which vegetation makes up a core element of the open courtyards that the local architecture is famed for, the home frames three trees to create quiet areas. These cypress, olive and willow trees are at the heart of the home and thus inspired the residence’s name, The House of the Three Trees.

 

Designed with intent, the home allows for an effortless flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces, characterised not simply by the terraces and patios that float above the ground level, but also in the choice of sliding doors out into the garden from the living spaces. Between the privacy of the home’s design, the warm climate and the thoughtful landscaping, this is a true escape that stands out from the crowd.
