Design Talk means taking some time to meet the face behind a brand. Today, we would like you to get to know Portuguese designer Miguel Soeiro, the founder of his own firm by the same name.
Born in Lisbon in 1986, Soeiro runs the independent design company he started in 2008, with a mission to bring the sort of brainy minimalism, and pragmatic but joyful esthetic the brand is known for, from Lisbon to the rest of the world.
Challenging design conventions
An accomplished, award-winning designer, Soeiro is intent on challenging design conventions while still keeping things simple, and always using traditional materials as a starting point. The result is a final product that’s informal, contemporary and yet timeless, owing to the clear harmony with the origins of the materials used. Having worked with both local artisans and large, international design firms, Miguel aims to infuse his designs, informed by a life lived in one of the world’s most beautiful cities, Lisbon, with the values that he stands for. This holds true if whether it’s a small object or an entire interior space he designs. When not at his design studio, Soeiro can be found lecturing the product design course at the Lisbon School of Design.
Remarkably graceful
The products featured on DECOVRY are his tableware collections; a line of remarkably graceful cutlery with the recognizable feature of a bend in the surface of the handle, creating a delicate sense of motion in the cutlery that lends it its signature class.
