Off to South Africa
The story of Maison Macolat begins in 1883 when Heinrich and Elisabeth Bunge set sail from Germany to Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa. There the family founded ‘Friedewald Farm’, meaning ‘peaceful forests’ in German. Together with the local Zulu people, the farm transformed into an agricultural gem. On the other side of the world, other relatives of the Bunge family traded the agricultural goods. They settled in the outskirts of Antwerp, a stone’s throw from Graanmarkt, the trading place to be in 1881.
Six generations later, the Bunge family still does what it knows best: trading goods such as its most premium macadamia nut from South Africa to Europe. Nowadays, the macadamia nut comes to us in the most elegant way, chocolate-covered with the quality chocolate of one of Belgium’s well renowned confectionary chefs.
Maison Macolat knows its world and believes that a good chocolate should be paired with a good drink. Why is that? With both chocolate and drinks, the attention to detail is key in terms of creating, pairing, serving and sharing, says Maison Macolat. Want to go for the total experience?
